Tips to take care of Rudraksha

Rudraksha is very holy and sacred bead which is linked to Hinduism strongly. There are many mukhis which have several benefits for the wearer to attain and is said to have healing powers. It can be worn in the form of a bracelet or a mala. Anyone, irrespective of gender can wear the rudraksha beads. This powerful accessory have been used since the beginning of time to intensify certain energizes and is the best as it helps maintain physical health and emotional.

Now, taking care of your rudraksha beads means to cleanse it and take suitable precautions to keep them safe. After wearing this auspicious bead you must cleanse/maintain it every 4 to 6 months. 

There are certain steps that need to be followed to cleanse/maintain your rudraksha. : –      
1. Immerse the rudraksha in ghee for 24 hours.      
2. Remove the holy bead from the ghee and then soak it in full fat milk for another 24 hours.      
3. Once this is done remove the beads from the milk and run it under tap water.      
4. Clean it with a cotton cloth.      
5. Make sure that the rudraksha is completely dry before wearing it.      
6. Condition it every 4-6 months for it’s maintenance. 

After cleansing it make sure that you don’t interchange your mala with anyone else. This maintanence process can be done often in around 4 to 6 months.

There are certain do’s and don’t’s that must be taken into consideration while wearing the Rudraksha such as: : –

– The best time to wear the rudraksha is early morning right after a bath and chant the mantras for the particular rudraksha or chant ‘ OM NAMAH SHIVAAY’.      
– According to Srimad devi bhagwtam, while wearing rudraksha there is no restrictions on drinking alcohol or consuming non vegetarian foods.      
– Whoever chooses to wear the rudraksha should visit lord shiva’s temple to seek his blessings.      
– Always keep the Rudraksha cleaned and oiled as dirt can enter the pores. It can by washed by water or milk which helps retain its sanctity and oiled with any nonsticky oil.      
– You can also place the bead in the sun and sit close while meditating to activate it.      
– The bead can be capped in silver or gold or could be worn in a normal red thread.      
– Wearing your rudraksha to a funeral is a big no as it could attract negative energy.      
– If you feel discomfort because of the beads while sleeping you can take them off.       
– You must remove Rudraksha while having a shower as regular contact with water or soap can harm the beads and dehydrate them.      
- Make sure to wear your Rudraksha after it’s siddhi which means after the purification process, preferably on a Monday as it is said to be auspicious.
